The Stay Cougar S.A.F.E. website has become the go-to hub for University of Houston students, faculty, and staff seeking campus safety resources, updates on safety initiatives, and information about related events. Since its relaunch in 2022, the site has seen remarkable growth across all key engagement metrics.
User Engagement Soars
During the 2024–25 academic year, the website experienced significant increases in traffic and user interaction:
- 6,254 Total Users
- 2,577 New Users
- 5,211 Engaged Sessions
- 10,733 Page Views
Compared to the same period in 2023–24, this represents:
- 388% increase in total users
- 435% increase in new users
- 318% increase in engaged sessions
- 173% increase in page views
Campus Safety Resources
A key driver of this growth is the wide range of resources available on the site, including:
- Emergency Call Boxes
An interactive map shows the locations of emergency call boxes, which connect directly to UHPD dispatch for immediate assistance or security escorts. - Bike Registration
Cyclists are encouraged to register their bikes with Parking & Transportation. Registered bikes receive a sticker, and in the event of loss or theft, the university can use the serial number to help recover and return the bike. - Cougar Ride After-Hours Shuttle
This service provides safe transportation from all on-campus shuttle stops. In the current academic year alone, 7,325 students utilized the program.
Outreach Events Drive Participation
The rise in engagement is also fueled by proactive outreach from Administration and Finance departments:
- Bike & Scooter Registration Events
Parking & Transportation hosted multiple events over the past two years. Registrations jumped from 104 in 2022–23 to 212 in 2023–24, and 215 in 2024–25. - Campus Safety Trainings
The Campus Safety division—comprising Fire & Life Safety, Emergency Management, and Environmental Health & Safety—offered a variety of trainings this spring with 1,685 total participants just in the first three months of this year alone:- 826 in Laboratory Safety
- 482 in Fire Safety
- 134 in Emergency Preparedness
- 134 in Occupational Safety
- 109 in CPR and AED
