Fadi Kafeety
Fadi Kafeety is a second year Ph.D. student in the department of History and the assistant director of the AAEF Center for Arab Studies. Fadi’s research focuses on the relationship between colonialism and revolutions in the Arabian Gulf and Peninsula and is writing his dissertation on the history of the South Yemeni revolution under the guidance of Dr. Abdel Razzaq Takriti.
Fadi joined CAS in 2020 on a mission to place the Center on the map as a leading site for multidisciplinary research on the Arab world and Arab Americans. As assistant director of CAS, Fadi oversees the day-to-day operations of the Center, which include organizing events and conferences, managing social media outreach, planning current and future projects, and working in close liaison with students and faculty of CAS, university administrators and personnel, and our community members in the Houston area.
Fadi received his BA in Middle East Studies at New York University before receiving his MA in Middle East Studies at the Graduate Center, CUNY, where he also worked as a research assistant to Dr. Beth Baron and a department assistant at the Middle East and Middle Eastern American Center (MEMEAC). Fadi’s MA thesis, “The Forgotten Comrades: Leftist Women, Palestinians, and the Jordanian Communist Party, 1936-1957” which was supervised by Dr. Baron, received the 2019 Lightning Talks award at the Graduate Center for best MA thesis presentation.
