The Me to We HTX campaign created and executed by Dr. Lan Ni’s Understanding Publics class last spring is a Public Service/Non-Profit Campaigns finalist for the 2018 Excalibur Awards.
Me to We HTX was strategically created by a team of graduate students at the Valenti School of Communication who identify with diverse backgrounds and cultures. Their goal was to reshape the narrative around Muslim immigration in America, and the campaign measured a 58% increase in people’s willingness to speak up - both in public and among friends - on matters regarding immigration.Me to We HTX previously placed third in the national Peer to Peer: Challenging Extremism initiative, which was hosted by the Department of Homeland Security.
The Excalibur Awards recognizes the most outstanding accomplishments in the development and execution of comprehensive public relations programs and individual tactics. This year’s theme is PR Strong, an ode to the tenacity of the greater Houston-area following Hurricane Harvey and the impact that public relations practitioners made on the city during that time.
