Biographical Summary
Professor Scott Basinger is an associate professor in the department of political science. His primary research focus is on political scandals in the United States. His research on how scandals impact congressional elections received national attention from The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, NPR, CNN and other media outlets. Additional reseach topics include presidential scandals, with particular attention to how Congress and the media publicize scandals, and judicial nominations, with particular attention to measuring the impact of partisanship.
His research has appeared in the American Political Science Review, Political Research Quarterly, Legislative Studies Quarterly, Public Choice, and others.
Professor Basinger lectures on statistics, game theory and mathematical modeling, and teaches a seminar on political scandals.
