Please tell us about your political science studies and how they relate to your career

During my time at UH I was lucky to work closely with Professors Richard Murray, Bryan Jones, David Brady, Jim Anderson and Kent Tedin who inspired me to become a university professor and helped prepare me for the task.  I have been fortunate to spend my career at Texas A&M University where I was first a professor in the department of political science and then executive associate dean of the College of liberal arts and later the Bob Bullock Chair in Government and Public Policy at the Bush School of Government and Public Service, executive associate dean of the Bush School and director of the Texas A&M Institute for Science, Technology and Public Policy.  My training also enabled me to take an Intergovernmental Personal Act transfer from Texas A&M to the Carter Administration where I worked in the Department of Health and Human Services under Secretary Califano and Secretary Harris.  The University of Houston and its Political Science Department are superb examples of the best that higher education has to offer.  I am very grateful for all they did for me and my professional career in higher education..
