Department of Psychology Undergraduate Scholarships

The Department of Psychology offers scholarships each year to students who are in the process of completing their degree in psychology at the University of Houston. The amount of each award varies.

Laurie T. Callicutt Scholarship

Factors that may be considered in the nomination process:

The faculty of the Undergraduate Education Committee has the primary responsibility for the selection of candidates for this scholarship. Typically the criteria utilized for these decisions focus on the prior educational attainment of the applicant, demonstrated interest in and preparation for the course of study, and evidence of the applicant’s ability to successfully matriculate in the program. This list is not exhaustive and programs are urged to utilize multiple relevant factors in making nomination decisions. Factors that may be considered during the nomination process are:

The scholarship is awarded to juniors for use in their senior year. Eligibility requirements for application are:

  • Submission of all materials by May 1st of the candidate's junior year.
  • Student must be a currently enrolled full-time Psychology major.
  • Student must have an overall GPA of 3.0 and a Psychology GPA of 3.5.
Selection criteria include:
  • Faculty recommendations based on outstanding academic and research performance.
  • Documented evidence of university and community service and leadership.
  • Quality of “Senior Special Project” proposal (see description in Application Form).

DEADLINES:

May 1, 2024-all application materials (including faculty recommendations) must be submitted.

May 15, 2024-notification of award.

Lee and Beverley Martin Scholarship

Factors that may be considered in the nomination process:

The faculty of the Undergraduate Education Committee has the primary responsibility for the selection of candidates for this scholarship. Typically the criteria utilized for these decisions focus on the prior educational attainment of the applicant, demonstrated interest in and preparation for the course of study, and evidence of the applicant’s ability to successfully matriculate in the program. This list is not exhaustive and programs are urged to utilize multiple relevant factors in making nomination decisions. Factors that may be considered during the nomination process are:

Eligibility requirements for application are:

  • Submission of all materials by May 1st for the following academic year.
  • Student must be a currently enrolled full-time declared Psychology major, in the 2nd to 4th year.

Selection criteria include:

  • Preference will be given to applicants who have one parent disabled by war.
  • If no applicant meets criterion 1, the scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who has the largest financial need, based on the applicant's FAFSA application.
