Graduate Certificate
The Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies adds interdisciplinary breadth to a student's course of study while increasing the depth and coherence of students' work on women and gender within their primary fields. WGSS offers a Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies as a nine credit interdisciplinary concentration that is open to students in all UH graduate and professional degree programs. To earn the certificate, a graduate student must take WOST 6301: Feminist Theory and Methodology and two additional relevant courses of their choosing (at least one of which must be from outside the student's home department).
Given the growing importance of women and gender issues in both scholarship and social policy, UH students find this formal recognition of their focus in Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies to be a valuable credential in both academic and non-academic job markets. Students who have earned or are pursuing the Graduate Certificate also receive first consideration for WGSS graduate fellowships, assistantships and awards. How to Apply
Graduate students interested in earning the Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies should download the Graduate Certificate Degree Plan and Application and submit a completed copy via email to the WGSS office.

Petitioning a Course for Approval

- Print a “General Petition” from the Academic Forms website.
- Fill in sections A and B of the petition completely.
- Have the professor teaching the course sign section C.
- Attach the course syllabus to the completed and signed petition and email it to WGSS (to complete the remaining steps in the process).
NOTE: 4000 level courses may be counted towards the Women's Studies graduate certificate if the student has completed extra course work and comes to an agreement with the professor about this before enrollment in the course.
