Welcome to the University of Houston Faculty COUNCIL

Welcome to the pages of the UH Faculty Council website. Here, we hope you will find the informational resources you are looking for. Our goal when developing and managing this website is to bring under one umbrella a variety of links and resources that might impact the day-to-day work of a faculty member. Of course, we wish to also provide information on the workings of the faculty council itself and on all the proceedings and documents related to the council committees. In that sense, the council website is designed to be both “outward-looking,” that is, a resource for UH faculty and “inward-looking,” that is, a resource for faculty council members.

UH Together

As we enter the final stretch of the spring semester, now is a natural time to look ahead. The summer months offer a window to reflect, reset, and prepare — both personally and professionally. This edition is dedicated to helping faculty make the most of that time as you get ready for Fall 2026.

The final Faculty Council Meeting

Date: Wednesday, May 13, 2026

Time: 12:00 to 14:00

Location: Space City Room #214, Student Center South

We kindly ask that all Councilors attend in person.

Preparing for Watermark Faculty Success

The University is launching Watermark Faculty Success, a new system that will streamline annual reviews, promotion and tenure documentation, and faculty activity reporting. As announced at the March Faculty Council meeting, this platform will replace legacy reporting processes and integrate with existing UH systems.

Faculty are encouraged to use the summer to familiarize themselves with the platform before the Fall semester begins. The Division of Academic Affairs and FED will be providing onboarding resources and training sessions. Watch for communications from your dean's office with timelines and access instructions.

Key uses of Watermark Faculty Success will include documenting teaching effectiveness, scholarly activity, grant activity, and service contributions — the same areas governed by SAM 06.A.09. Entering the fall with a clear understanding of the system will considerably ease the annual review process.

FED Summer Opportunities

The Faculty Engagement and Development (FED) Center offers a range of summer professional development opportunities. Faculty are encouraged to explore available workshops, coaching, and online resources through the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD) and Magna Commons. Visit https://www.uh.edu/fed/services/professional-development/ for details.

Summer Syllabus Preparation

With Simple Syllabus now fully in effect for all UH courses, the summer is an excellent time to review and update your fall syllabi. As a reminder, all syllabi must be submitted through the Canvas-integrated Simple Syllabus platform. Faculty should also ensure that syllabus content aligns with the precision standards outlined under Texas SB 37. For guidance, visit your dean's office or the FED Center.
