The University of Houston Division of Energy and Innovation is hosting a timely symposium, titled “The Future of Mobility: Promises and Bottlenecks” on Thursday, Oct. 19, to discuss transportation related challenges and opportunities as the world works toward a cleaner, more equitable and more sustainable energy future for all.
Transportation is one of the leading emitters of greenhouse gases and efforts to decarbonize all sectors of this industry are underway. However, there are also many bottleneck issues that must be addressed with urgency – from infrastructure and supply chain considerations to finances and regulatory oversight.
“The future is crucial not only for Texas, where carbon emissions hinge on transportation solutions, but also for our nation. Emissions transcend state lines,” said Ramanan Krishnamoorti, vice president for energy and innovation at UH and co-author of a white paper titled "Net Zero in Texas: The Role of Transportation."
The symposium focuses on the future of mobility and brings together thought leaders working to address transportation issues and needs to examine key opportunities to advance sustainable transportation options that are affordable and accessible and key challenges that need to be addressed for these options to be real.

- Ben Shapiro - manager of the carbon-free transportation team, Rocky Mountain Institute
- Mary Holing - vice president of transportation electrification, Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator
- Catherine McCreight – director of transportation planning, Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT)
- Margaret Kidd - associate instructional professor and director of the Supply Chain and Logistics Technology Program (undergraduate), University of Houston (Moderator)

Attendees will be able to check in beginning at 5:30 p.m. and visit booths from EVOLVE Houston and Shell prior to the event and network after the panel presentation. Refreshments will be served.
While the event is open to the public and free to attend, advance registration is required.
