National Academy of Inventors Fellows Program

The NAI Fellows Program was established to highlight academic inventors who have demonstrated a prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development and the welfare of society.

Limited Submission Announcement

The DOR will announce the acceptance of nominations 6 weeks prior to the July deadline.

Eligibility:

  • made outstanding contributions to innovation in areas of such as patents and licensing, innovative discovery and technology, significant impact on society, and support and enhancement of innovation.
  • be named inventor on patent(s) issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office (median for fellows is 20).
  • be a pioneer in their field.
  • nominees do not have to be current NAI members.

Application

DOR and the nominee’s departmental RA will be responsible for submitting the nomination.

Nominations are due in July.

The nominator is responsible for following documents:

  • Nomination Form: Nominee’s contact info, Citation (200 words or less listing contribution, honors and awards), Summary (200 words or less of patents, licensing and commercialization activities), statement of impact on public welfare in 200 words or less)
  • Nominee’s Full CV
  • Letter of Nomination
  • Full List of US Patents
  • Optional: Nominee’s Biography and/or Letters of Support (max of 3)
