Public Transportation

In the Greater Houston area, bus, lightrail, and shared-ride public transit services are operated by METRO.

If you will frequently ride buses or lightrails, consider getting a METRO Q Card. The METRO Q Card is a contactless smart card used to ride on METRO Bus, METRORail, and METROLift. With a METRO Q Card, you get free unlimited transfers in any direction for up to three hours. 

LCC students may apply for a discounted METRO Q Card which offers a 50% discount on all bus and light-rail services. Follow these steps to apply:

  1. Send an email to lcc@uh.edu and request an enrollment verification letter for the METRO Q Card. 
  2. Go to a METRO RideStores and apply for a discounted METRO Q Card. Bring the following items with you:
    • enrollment verification letter issued by the LCC
    • passport
    • Cougar Card

Shared Rides

Uber and Lyft are available in the Greater Houston area.
