Post-Baccalaureate

The post-baccalaureate status is designed for applicants who have earned one or more degrees at an accredited institution and seek another undergraduate degree, wish to enter a non-degree seeking program or wish to further their education by taking courses in varying fields of study.

Students can only pursue non-degree seeking post-baccalaureate status within the major they received their prior degree in. If interested in seeking an additional degree, it must be within a major they did not receive a prior degree.

Students who recently graduated from the University of Houston and wish to change their classification to post-baccalaureate should submit a general petition to the department of their major, or to the post-baccalaureate program they are interested in pursuing, in less than four consecutive academic terms or 13 consecutive months. Students are still required to meet the change of major requirements for the program they wish to pursue.

UH students that have an interruption of four consecutive terms, or 13 consecutive months, after the term they earned their UH degree will need to apply to the Office of Admissions to be admitted as a post-baccalaureate student. Click here for information on applying to UH as a post-baccalaureate student.

Students who received their prior degree at another institution should apply to the Office of Admissions to be admitted as a post-baccalaureate student. Click here for information on applying to UH as a post-baccalaureate student.

Post-baccalaureate students can take undergraduate courses, pursue a second degree or meet the prerequisites needed for graduate majors. Students are required to submit an official transcript from the student's previous institution showing a bachelor's degree, if applicable.
