The Hobby School experienced significant growth and transformation last year, achieving notable milestones and an elevated reputation. The latest impact report showcases record cohort numbers in programs, one of the largest graduating classes and impactful public service opportunities and research. The Hobby School celebrated local government leaders and collaborative partnerships and empowered lawmakers and the public with information on public policy issues and concerns important to Texans.
We look ahead to the future with excitement about breaking ground on a new state-of-the-art academic building and strengthening the school's strong foundation in research and public service. Hail to the Chiefs, pg. 14
For many Hobby School students, learning to translate passion into action starts with the Civic Houston Internship Program, which offers opportunities in local government offices, nonprofits, political campaigns and other mission-driven organizations. Meet three former interns leading at Houston City Hall.
Applied Research, pg. 24
Hobby School research on policy issues informs lawmakers and the public about the region and state's growth, trends and elections. Researchers analyzed data and opinions on topics ranging from the 2024 elections to the resiliency of the state's power grid.
The Future of American Democracy, pg. 26
Prominent experts and a multidisciplinary artist headlined Hobby School programming, including a lecture series on the future of democracy. The Atlantic journalist George Packer, former presidential candidate Julián Castro and former Illinois congressman Adam Kinzinger shared insights on the political climate, political participation and democratic institutions during the presidential election year.

Hobby School expanded its access to thought-provoking discussions by launching a podcast series, Hobby Talks, in the fall of 2024. Hosted by Dean Jim Granato, the new series features conversations on politics and policy addressing the most complex challenges facing the region and state.

The Hobby School community celebrated Bill Hobby's legacy with a book launch of the new biography "Bill Hobby: A Life of Journalism and Public Service." Historians and authors Don Carleton and Erin L. Purdy highlighted Hobby's contributions to Texas, leadership style and commitment to transparent and efficient government.
