Career Highlights:

Norm Johnson’s academic research has focused on computer-mediated negotiations and human behaviors, the utility of virtual world, decision-making and the newsvendor problem, and operations management in health care. His research appears in several leading journals such as MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems (MIS), Decision Sciences, Decision Support Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, among others. Based on his research accomplishments, he has been ranked in the top 1% of scholars who have published in high-impact MIS Journals during the decade, 2005-2014, and ranked in the top 3% for research published during the period 1977 to 2014.

In applied research and practice, he focuses on developing predictive models, using numerical and textual data. Before his academic career, for about 10 years, he was an assistant actuary who developed pricing models and valued pension funds. Johnson consults in the area of data analytics for a number of organizations across many industries – oil and gas, finance and investments and insurance. Since 2015, he has been a senior advisor of data science for a Houston-based private equity company that manages four private funds. Johnson has also taught courses in analytics to executives and graduate students in New York, Beijing and Dubai. His degrees include a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science, MBA in Finance, and M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Business.
