Admission Requirements for RN-BSN
Only individuals with an accredited Associate's Degree of Nursing (ADN) or Nursing diploma can apply to the RN to BSN track. Individuals with an international degree need to complete additional procedures before applying.
Applicants who have completed an international nursing diploma program that is not affiliated to a university may not have satisfied the Associate Degree requirement for admission to the Gessner College of Nursing undergraduate RN to BSN track due to the non-academic nature of this type of coursework.
All applicants are required to meet the following requirements:
- Graduated from an accredited associate's degree program. The associate's degree must have been completed prior to the June 1 deadline.
- Cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 to be eligible to apply.
- 2.5 or above GPA in natural, physical and behavioral sciences is required
- Applicants are encouraged to have a GPA of 2.5 in natural and behavioral sciences to be considered competitive.
- Completed all prerequisite course work and submitted transcripts prior to the deadline. No in-progress courses will be accepted.
- Completed the Texas Core Curriculum
- Completed the Nursing Field of Study
- Received evidence of an unencumbered, current Texas Registered Nurse license.
- RN to BSN applicants will be given 33 semester credit hours of advanced placement credit for successful completion of nursing courses and subsequent unencumbered, current Texas Registered Nurse license.
Individuals who meet the above requirements are encouraged to apply to the RN-BSN track.
