Disabled Veterans
The University of Houston honors and thanks all disabled veterans for their service. As a show of support, all disabled veterans displaying the Disabled Veteran (DV) license plates issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles are allowed to park on campus at no charge. An explanation of who can park where is as follows:
Visitors
Without ADA Credentials
Vehicles displaying disabled veteran license plates issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles are exempt from parking fees in designated orange pay-by-phone visitor spaces. Parking in ADA spaces within these areas is prohibited without a county issued International Symbol of Accessibility (ISA) hangtag or an ISA designated plate.
This exemption is suspended during event parking operations, including football game days, and disabled veterans will be required to pay the applicable game day parking fee.
With ADA Credentials
Visitors displaying disabled veteran (DV) license plates issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles who also have a county issued International Symbol of Accessibility (ISA) hangtag or a license plate with the ISA symbol are exempt from paying fees in orange pay-by-phone spaces on campus. They may park in both ADA and non ADA pay-by-phone spaces. This exemption is suspended during event parking operations, including football game days, and disabled veterans will be required to pay the applicable game day parking fee.
Students/Faculty/Staff
DV Plates (With ISA Credentials)
Students, faculty, and staff who are veterans with disabilities and whose vehicles display disabled veteran (DV) license plates issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, along with a county issued International Symbol of Accessibility (ISA) hangtag or a license plate with the ISA symbol, are eligible to receive a University of Houston ADA permit free of charge and may park in designated disabled spaces. They are also exempt from paying fees in orange pay-by-phone spaces on campus, both ADA and non ADA, except during event parking operations, such as football game days.
DV Plates (No ISA Credentials)
Students, faculty and staff with disabled veterans plates but do not have the county-issued ISA disabled hangtags or a plate with the ISA symbol can get any available zone permit at no cost. They are also exempt from the payment of fees in the pay-by-phone spaces on campus, but should not park in the ADA spaces within these areas. This exemption is suspended during event parking operations, including football game days, and disabled veterans will be required to pay the applicable game day parking fee.
Important note: Disabled veteran parking accommodations are reserved exclusively for use when the individual to whom the disabled veteran license plate was issued is either operating the vehicle or is a passenger. Simply driving the vehicle does not qualify a non-disabled veteran for this accommodation.
