Keck Foundation
The Keck Foundation strives to fund endeavors that are distinctive and novel in their approach. It encourages projects that are high-risk with the potential for transformative impact. "High-risk" comprises several factors, including questions that push the edge of the field, present unconventional approaches to intractable problems, or challenge the prevailing paradigm.
Announcement
Limited Submission Announcement
The DOR limited submission application is due 6 weeks before the Keck Foundation counseling periods.
PI should prepare a single-page concept paper in one of these areas:
- Medical Research and Science
- Engineering Research
Single-page concept paper should include:
- Page, Overview, Methodologies, Key Personnel, Justification for Keck Support, Estimated Budget by major areas.
Review
Internal Review
The AVP/AVC for Research and Technology Transfer along with college ADRs, will review
all limited submission applications.
- Up to FOUR applications from each research area will be selected by the review committee to move forward in the process.
Keck Counseling Call
The UH Director of Foundation Relations will submit single-page concept papers along with financial statements and tax exempt documentation to the Keck Foundation.
UH DOR administration, the Keck Foundation and UH Foundation relations will participate in a counseling call during the counseling periods:
- January 1-February 15
- July 1-August 15
Based on counseling feedback, the review committee will select ONE application per research area to move forward to the Phase I application process.
Phase I Application
DOR will provide selected PIs will feedback from the Keck foundation counseling call.
The PI will prepare their Phase I application:
- Project Summary (1 page): Abstract, Unique Aspects, Key Personnel, Budget, Justification for Keck Support.
- Project Descriptions (2 page maximum): Overview, Relevant Efforts, Peer Groups, Goals and Methodology, Impact, Fundraising.
- Project Budget.
- References: list of 5 knowledgeable experts (one sentence describing why each reference was chosen), list of reviewers that may be biased against the application.
DOR administration and the Director of UH Foundation Relations will assist in the submission of the Phase I application.
Additional documents to be included in the application:
- Cover Page, Institutional Priority of Request, Fundraising History, Financial Statements, IRS Determination
- Letter/Declaration Status, Governing Board, Fact Sheet or Annual Report
Phase I submissions are due:
- May 1
- November 1
Full Proposal
Invitation to Submit Full Proposal
Four weeks after the Phase I application is submitted, UH will be notified of eligibility of review.
After the Keck Foundation review, applicants will be invited to submit a Phase II application, full proposal:
- Proposal Cover Page, Project Overview Form, Budget Form
Phase II submissions are due:
- February 15
- August 15
