The Carey C. Shuart Women's Archive & Research Collection at the UH Libraries Seeks a Graduate Assistant-Exhibit Curator
Job Description:
This is a one-year (12 month) appointment.
Working in the Special Collections department, the Graduate Assistant-Exhibit Curator will perform and support curatorial design, selection, and installation of exhibit materials on the history and impact of Houston area women’s clubs contained within the collections of the Carey C. Shuart Women’s Research Collection. The Graduate Assistant will also create accompanying descriptions for the exhibit materials.
Principal Duties:
- Survey, research, and select archival materials for potential exhibit consideration and inclusion
- Work with Curator of the Shuart Women’s Research Collection on exhibit design, layout, and themes using exhibit guidelines and best practices
- Work with Curator on exhibit installation in the second-floor gallery space of the MD Anderson Library
- Provide accompanying exhibit descriptions using archival and exhibit best practices and standards
- Additional duties may include creating a digital exhibit, social media and promotion, and assisting with exhibit programming and planning
Non-Benefits, Non-Exempt Staff
Hours: 20 hours per week
Rate: $19 per hour
Schedule is flexible within these hours: Monday-Friday 9:00am to 6:00pm
This position reports to the Archivist and Curator of the Carey C. Shuart Women’s Research Collection in the MD Anderson Library on the University of Houston main campus.
Required:
- Graduate student on the UH Main campus
- Experience or familiarity in working with historical archives; or an enrollment in a graduate program in CLASS
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
