Calavera con Calavera

  • Location: Livestreamed at Miller Outdoor Theatre: 6000 Hermann Park Dr, Houston, TX 77030
FLAS and and the organization Índigo (Indigo Theater Group) return to celebrate “Calavera con Calavera” (Skulls), on its 11th anniversary, and on its 5th consecutive year stepping on Miller Outdoor Theatre’s prestigious stage, just to in time to celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Where do we go after we die? That is the question each character asks; it’s a story between life and death. “Calavera con Calavera” (Skulls) brings the richness of the traditional Mexican songs, Folkloric dances, Aztec rituals, and plenty of surprises to solemnize this musical. This performance will also be livestreamed! You can watch it on YouTube, Facebook or the Miller Outdoor Theatre website.

Meet us in the Plaza to watch the 1961 classic, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Based on Truman Capote’s novel, this is the story of a young woman in New York City who meets a young man when he moves into her apartment building. He is with an older woman who is very wealthy, but he wants to be a writer. She is working as an expensive escort and searching for a rich, older man to marry.

World Hello Day

World Hello Day began in response to the conflict between Egypt and Israel in the Fall of 1973 and has been adopted by many countries around the world. As a demonstration of the importance of personal communication for preserving peace, everyone is encouraged to greet ten people to encourage world leaders to use communication rather than force to settle conflicts.

Reel Talk is a series of documentary screenings at University Branch Library with brief discussions of the films after they are shown. This month, we’re viewing Final Account. This a powerful documentary that examines the reflections and remorse of former Nazi party members and their descendants, offering a chilling insight into the lasting impact of their actions during World War II. It runs 1 hour and 34 minutes. It is rated PG13.

National Day of Mourning

A demonstration, held annually on the fourth Thursday in November, to educate the public about Native Americans, dispel misconceptions about Native American history, and raise awareness toward ongoing as well as historical struggles that tribes face.

A national holiday celebrated to give thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year.
